Stalls

As well as being an exciting space for new performance and world music, the Mela is renowned for its fantastic food and shopping.

We’re currently looking for stallholders to form both our global food village and our market. Anyone who wants to trade is welcome: in the food village we want to be able to offer tastes from all over the world, while jewellery, accessories, fashion, interiors, sari stalls, crafts and fair trade goods are top-sellers in the Mela marketplace.

In 2012, over 27,000 people visited the Mela over two days. If you want to bring your cuisine or products to that size of audience,

email stalls@edinburgh-mela.co.uk by Friday 2nd August 2013.

Important Notice to Food Stallholders

New Waste (Scotland) Regulations are coming into force on 1 January 2014, This marks a major change in the way Scotland manages its waste. From this date, all organisations and businesses will be legally required to separate key recyclable materials, and food businesses must present food waste for separate collection.

The Edinburgh Mela is committed to reducing the amount of waste we produce and to recycle as much of our waste as possible. Food and drinks containers made from polystyrene and non-biodegradable plastics have been identified as the biggest contributors to the problem.  We are therefore implementing a ‘biodegradables only’ policy for the 2013 festival.

As of this year, there will be a complete ban on the use of non-biodegradable disposable containers on the site.  This includes the commonly used polystyrene containers and cups, and plastic cutlery.

What does this mean?

All stallholders, particularly those serving food, will be required to use only biodegradable containers

What are the implications for food traders at the 2013 Mela?

The implications are simple.  You must switch to biodegradable containers in order to trade at the Mela.

What are the cost implications?

In order to assist our traders in complying with the policy, The Edinburgh Mela are offering a discount of £50 from usual pitch prices for the 2013 festival only.

We are also looking at partnering with biodegradable container suppliers in order to offer you the best prices for purchasing this stock.  We will update you on the progress of this once we have more details.
