If you’re aged 16 – 25 and live in Edinburgh, this is your chance to train with some of the best professional dance, circus, and urban sports performers in Scotland.
Young people in Edinburgh will be able to participate in a 16 week programme where they can train in breakdance, acrobatics, parkour, circus and performance skills, with an opportunity to perform on the World Dance Feste stage at Edinburgh Mela in August this year.
Taster sessions are being held in May in partnership with North Edinburgh Arts Centre and Duncan Place Resource Centre. Workshops are free and are open to all those aged 16-25 with an interest in dance, acrobatics, parkour and circus, but places must be booked via the Bright Night International website or by email (email@example.com).
The G Force Project has been developed by the Edinburgh Mela and Bright Night International and is supported by Cashback for Communities.
G Force builds on the success of two key projects at the 2012 Edinburgh Mela:
Bright Night International’s hiphop and parkour dance theatre piece 925, which was creatively led and devised by leading Scottish hiphop artist Xena Gusthart of Xena Productions and commissioned for the 2012 World Dance Feste.
G Code, a seven-month collaboration between the Edinburgh Mela and North Edinburgh Arts, offered diverse groups of young people the opportunity to develop their skills as music producers, hiphop artists, singers and rappers. As a group, G Code played on stage at Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall, and performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Usher Hall.
It is hoped that G Force will create a similar troupe of young performers and open up exciting opportunities to people in the North Edinburgh area.
