Egyptian Bellydance

Bellydance or ‘Raqs Sharki’ as it is also known, is an ancient feminine dance common throughout the countries of the Middle East. Natalie, an Edinburgh based performer, began studying this ancient art in 2002 after returning from travelling in Egypt. After training with many local and international instructors Natalie, in her quest to learn more, returned to Egypt to study with the top instructors in the region from which the dance originates. As a result Natalie has developed a style, often described as elegant and graceful and plans to bring this and with it a little bit of Egypt to this year’s Edinburgh Mela Festival.

Manushi Dance Company

As part of this year’s festival, Manushi Dance will perform Kathak - a classical dance form which originates from North India. Through two aspects: technical and expressional this style of dance tells ancient stories through a combination of hand movements, facial expressions and eye gestures.

Vibrant Bollywood extravaganza – the show will take you through an enchanting journey of eclectic songs, pulsating rhythms, glamorous dances depicting rich flavors of traditional and contemporary Bollywood.
Dance Ihayami Student Company

Edinburgh based Indian dance company ‘Dance Ihayami’ run a local school in the city teaching classical Indian art forms, with weekly classes in music, dance and martial arts.
In 'Chilangai', Ihayami students give a colorful, energetic and rhythmic performance of Indian dance.
