I did not know you, now you feel like home. Impressive acrobatics, urban sports, theatre and skilful juggling displays take the place of traditional circus clowns and animals in this spectacular contemporary circus show. This young circus company, primarily made up of talented 13-25 year olds from across Scotland, also features exceptional UK and Australian performers.

The Mela hosts the full 45 minute show that wowed audiences of thousands all across Scotland with the Queen’s Baton Relay this summer, with aerial acrobatics, parkour, dance, juggling, hula hoop and partner acrobatics. ‘Thresholds’ is directed by Lou Brodie (Imaginate, National Theatre, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and takes audiences on a journey through the year the company trained together, created a home together and built a community. Audiences are calling it “brilliant, fresh, energetic”, “amazing, funny and a real spectacle”.

Bright Night International tour internationally including parkour dance shows Wee Jamp and JAMP, and the Edinburgh’s Mela’s own hiphop theatre commission 925. Their shows have appeared at the National Theatre, London, at Spoffin Festival, Netherlands and in Cologne, Germany. Alongside the 2014 Commonwealth Youth Circus project for elite performers they also run Bright Night Youth Circus, free weekly circus tuition for 15-25 year olds in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Youth Circus is an official Culture 2014 production as part of the Commonwealth Games
