Bollywood Love Story
Bollywood Love Story was the Edinburgh Mela’s major 2015 commission in collaboration with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Take a look at what went on behind the scenes by watching our short film.
The Edinburgh Mela are delighted to have been shortlisted for Creative Edinburgh’s ‘Collaboration Award‘ which recognises outstanding creative collaboration between organisations.
The inspiration for the project came from a desire by the Edinburgh Mela to create a visual spectacle drawn from the colours, passion and rich visual heritage of Bollywood. We visualised an amazing opportunity to bring together new and emerging Scottish based dancers with Bollywood dance professionals and created a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in two of Scotland’s preeminent festivals during summer 2015.
Bollywood Love Story saw a cast of Bollywood dance professionals from Delhi perform alongside an ensemble cast of 35 talented local dancers (cast through open auditions held at Dance Base) in a classic Bollywood story of romance and peril.
The company performed an extract of the show every night at the world famous Tattoo, with its sumptuous costumes and dazzling dance moves becoming a highlight for the millions who see the show as its broadcast across the globe.
The sensational full show played in front of a standing room only crowd on the final day of the 2015 Edinburgh Mela.
