The !Gubi Family are an enchanting family of six San or Bushmen musicians, ranging in age from 18 to 80, and are the keepers of a vanishing tradition of San Musical Culture. Their home is Corridor 18, in the Kalahari Desert, Namibia. The San are the originators of trance dance and their music is specifically designed to evoke an altered state of consciousness through the rhythms and beats, enabling the musician to enter a trance and perform healing on both individuals and the tribe. The music of this family has captivated the ear of top international artists and they have collaborated with Pops Mohammed and Zena Williams, to produce the internationally acclaimed album, 'SanScapes'. The performance begins with a film introducing the family in their village in Namibia.

Delivered in the spacious Rotunda of Ocean Terminal, this is an intriguing performance by Edinburgh based company iMAP, which seeks to promote dialogues among cultures, practice-based activities and community involvement.

One of the first great epics of Indian Cinema and a profound influence in Bollywood and beyond. Directed by the great Mehboob Khan, it was first screened in 1957 and was nominated for an Oscar as 'Best Foreign Language Film'. Morally complex and emotionally moving, Mother India was lauded for its stunning cinematography, indelible soundtrack and powerful, dramatic storyline.
The story follows Radha through marriage, motherhood and into old age; a life that deals with isolation, poverty, debt and violence.
Kala Phool and Tigerstyle, one of the world's
top turntablists, have been working together to re-score this epic film to commemorate the independence of India and Pakistan. The film will be projected onto huge screens in the Mela Gardens while the instrumentalists perform their contemporary score.
